Shopify Product Price Calculator

Running your own store means you pay for things a marketplace bundles in: card processing, the monthly plan, apps and usually advertising. Enter them here to find the price that covers all of it and leaves the margin you want.

Loads the Basic plan’s US online card rate with Shopify Payments: 2.9% + 30¢. Higher plans have lower rates. The Basic plan costs $39 per month billed monthly; add it with your apps under monthly costs. Using another payment provider adds a 2% fee on Basic.

Pricing a product on your own store

On Shopify there is no referral fee, so it is tempting to think your margin is simply price minus product cost. In practice each order pays card processing (a percentage plus a fixed amount), the shipping you pay the carrier, and a share of your fixed monthly costs. For many stores advertising is the largest cost of all, so include it as a percentage of revenue.

Fixed costs behave differently from per-order costs: the more you sell, the less each unit carries. The calculator spreads them over the units you expect to sell in a month, so try a cautious volume as well as an optimistic one and price for the cautious case.

Example: $79.00 of monthly costs over 120 units adds $0.66 per unit

The 30% target price is $27.73 and break-even is $17.62. At 60 units a month the fixed-cost share would double, so check the price still works if sales are slower.

Card rates and plans change

The typical-fee button loads the Basic plan's US online card rate and links to Shopify's pricing page. Rates differ by plan, country and card type (for example international cards), so confirm the numbers in your Shopify admin. If you sell on marketplaces too, compare channels with the Amazon, Etsy and eBay calculators.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the selling price of a product on Shopify?

Add your product, packaging and shipping costs per unit, add your share of fixed monthly costs (plan, apps, theme), then solve for the price at which card processing and those costs leave your target margin. The calculator does the solving: enter costs, fees and a margin, and read the target price.

Should my Shopify plan cost be part of the product price?

Yes, if you want each sale to pay its share of running the store. Divide the monthly plan and app costs by the units you expect to sell per month. The calculator does this when you fill in monthly costs and units; a store selling fewer units carries more fixed cost per unit.

Does Shopify take a percentage of each sale?

With Shopify Payments you pay a card processing rate plus a fixed amount per online transaction; the rate depends on your plan and country. If you use a different payment provider, Shopify adds a separate transaction fee on top of that provider's charges.

What margin should a Shopify store aim for?

There is no universal number. It depends on your product category, how much you spend on advertising to acquire customers, and your returns. Start from the margin that covers your advertising cost per order and leaves profit, and check it against what competitors charge.
